Description

Flowers are delicate, yet they can bloom in cracks of the stones.

When a plant struggles to survive, the blossoms it produces are often the most abundant—and the most beautiful.
In that sense, flowers are not just symbols of beauty, but powerful witnesses to resilience and determination.

In the Song of Songs, the heroine endures mistreatment from her brothers and mockery from her peers.
And yet, she lives with strength and dares to pursue love with an unwavering heart.

My piece, “Blossom in the Rocks,” is born from that spirit.

The entire work is cloaked in darkness—anchored by black onyx as the central stone, with floral motifs woven from matte black to deep blue Miyuki beads.
Under light, these beads shimmer with a subtle, iridescent brilliance, symbolizing not only the strength of the flower, but also the longing for light even in the depths of darkness.

At the back of the neck sits a traditional Si-Fang knot—a type of Chinese knot representing harmony and stability. From it, a long chain ornament cascades down, bringing the piece a hint of Hanfu attire’s elegance. This ornament captures the quiet beauty of East Asian femininity: poised, serene, and unshaken.

Though this work may appear dark in palette, it expresses a spirit of calm resolve and inner strength in the face of adversity.
It reminds me of Tagore’s verse—of the one who stands in darkness, holding a lantern to light the path for others.
Or perhaps, it is like the first ray of dawn breaking through the night sky.
