When I was in kindergarten, I loved collecting the bright red seeds of the Red Bead Tree—often called Red Beans. I thought they were little rubies, treasures from nature.
After moving to a new place where the trees didn’t grow, I gradually forgot about them—until one day, my boyfriend surprised me with a handful of Red Beans. My eyes lit up with joy.
As a jewelry designer, I know how rare such a vivid red is in natural materials—except for red coral, which is costly and scarce. But Red Beans? They’re a generous, sustainable gift from nature.
I knew I had to include them in a piece.
This necklace, accented with Red Beans against earthy green tones, captures the rhythm of the forest floor—where leaves grow, fall, decompose, and give life again. A cycle of giving, nurturing, and renewal.
It reminds me of a line from Laputa: Castle in the Sky:
“To root in the soil, to live with the winds, to pass the winter with the seeds, to sing with the birds when spring comes.”
I named this necklace EarthSea—a tribute to the richness of nature, and a reminder to love it, protect it, and always be grateful for its gifts.
